Donna J. Burdge

Donna J. Burdge, age 91, passed away Sunday evening, June 25, 2023, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kansas.

She was born February 23, 1932, at Argonia, Kansas the daughter of Oliver (OJ) and Relna (Rhodes) Freeman. As a young girl, she attended school in Harper, Kansas, graduating from Harper High School. A longtime Meade resident, she was a cook for USD 226, having worked at both the Meade Elementary and Meade High School until her retirement.

She enjoyed camping, fishing, caring for animals, and spending time with her family and friends.

On April 23, 1952, she married Bernie Burdge at Danville, Kansas. He precedes her in death on April 12, 2013.

She is survived by her children, Rick Burdge of Meade, Cindy Shrewsberry of Meade, and Becky Bertke of Euless, Texas; two brothers, Don Freeman of Anthony, Kansas, and Carl Dean Freeman of Argonia, Kansas; eight grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband; a son, Terry Burdge in 1979; and her parents.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 Friday, June 30, 2023, at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Cremation has taken place and private family burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family would welcome memorials to the Pet’s Miracle Network in care of the funeral home.
