Donald W. (Donie) Shumard

Donald W. (Donie) Shumard, age 61, passed away early Thursday morning, August 27, 2020, at the Fowler Residential Care Center, Fowler, Kansas.

He was born June 19, 1959, at the United States Army Hospital in Wurzburg, Germany, the son of Donald Albert and Donna Dee (Adrian) Shumard. As a young boy, he attended grade school in Dodge City, Kansas. He later attended school in Ensign, Kansas, graduating from Ensign High School.

On February 13, 1993, he married Pamela Zimmerman at Dodge City. After their marriage, the couple owned and operated Bootleggers Bar and Grill in Dodge City for several years. Donie later pursued his passion of farming, working for Bucky Rexford of Meade, Kansas. He later was employed by the Fowler School District doing maintenance and transportation duties.

Donie enjoyed watching and attending sporting events, especially to cheer on the Fowler Goldbugs, Kansas City Chiefs, and the KU Jayhawks. Donie also appreciated the outdoors and loved to fish, hunt, and do landscaping.

He is survived by his wife, Pam, Fowler; three sons, Tallon Shumard, Lawrence, Kansas, Tate Shumard (Mikala Grover), Garnett, Kansas, and Tanner Zimmerman (Amber), Meade, Kansas; his parents, Donald and Donna Shumard, Dodge City; a brother, David Shumard (Jane), Dodge City; and three grandchildren, Krue, Kollyns, and Kennedy Zimmerman, Meade, KS.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2020, at the community shelter house at the Fowler City Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome memorials to the University of Kansas Alzheimer’s Disease Center in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
