Donald Lee Smith

Donald Lee Smith, 83, of Liberal, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023 at his home in Liberal, KS.

He was born on December 26, 1939 to Marrion and Mary Frances (Gerard) Smith in Syracuse, KS.

On July 19, 1969 he married Frances “Fran” Linenberger at Garden City, KS.

Don owned and operated Smith Organ Service and worked as an electronics technician for Brier & Hale Music before retiring.
He was a former Scout Master and a Rock Hound. Don had many hobbies including information technology, photography, operating shortwave ham radios, building model airplanes & trains, and watching web cams from around the world. Don was a member of the St. Anthony of Padua Church in Liberal where he passionately served in many positions including Director of the RCIA, designing and maintaining the church webpage; recording the gospel and the sermon to upload to the page for the members who couldn’t attend to be able to follow.
He was also a 57 year member of Knights of Columbus.

Don is survived by his loving wife Fran, Three Daughters, Donna Malcom (Russell) of Liberal, KS, Kathryn Werner (Corey) of Warrensburg, MO, Sandra Eckert (Rick) of Emporia, KS; Six Sons, Joseph Smith (Kelli) of Broken Arrow, OK, Christopher Smith (Natalia) of San Diego, CA, Patrick Smith (Lisa) of Oklahoma City, OK, Anthony Smith (Trina) of Lufkin, TX, Marrion Smith (Shana) of Osage City, KS, Eugene Smith (Charlene) of Colorado Springs, CO; 20 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by Three Sisters, Mary Ellen Konkel of Harper, KS, Joyce Lane (Dan) of Garden City, KS, Judy Penner (Dennis) of Hillsboro, KS; Brother, Thomas Smith (Geri) of Hastings, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place per Don’s wishes.

A Rosary Service will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at the St. Anthony of Padua Church in Liberal

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at the St. Anthony of Padua Church in Liberal with Inurnment to follow at the Liberal City Cemetery.
