Donald D. (Don) Wilson

Donald D. (Don) Wilson, age 90, passed away Sunday evening, August 4, 2024, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kansas.

He was born March 31, 1934, at Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Wilbur F. (Red) and Mary F. (Classen) Wilson. As a young boy, he attended school in Plains, graduating from Plains High School in 1952. A lifetime area resident, he was a station operator for Jayhawk Pipeline for over thirty years.

He was a member of the Meade County Historical Society, Santa Fe Trail Association, and American Quarter Horse Association, and served on the Lone Tree Retirement Center Board. He enjoyed his horses, traveling, reading history books, his pets, spending time outdoors, and time with his family and friends.

On January 16, 1957, he married Ruth Henry at Sallisaw, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on December 1, 2023.

He is survived by two sons, Phillip Wilson and wife Deb of Plains, and Stephen Wilson of McPherson, Kansas; three grandchildren, Megan Wilson, of Plains, Caleb Wilson of Canberra, Australia, and Katie Muraliraj and husband Karthik of Dallas, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Revan and Maya Muraliraj.

He is preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2024, at the Friends Church of Plains with interment to follow in the Plains Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the family present to receive friends at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.

The family would welcome memorials to the Meade County Historical Society in care of the funeral home.
