Dickey H. Johann, age 70, of Garden City, Kansas died Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, Kansas. Dickey was born August 31, 1943 in Paola, Kansas, the son of Ralph and Alphalee (Shearhart) Johann.
Dickey was a member of the 1961 class of Paola High School. He worked at Hallmark in Kansas City, and the Osawatomie State Hospital. He was married to Ethyl Osborne, to this union two daughters were born. The marriage ended in divorce. Dickey moved to Ulysses, Kansas where he met and married Sonja Blackmore. Two sons were born from this marriage. Sonja died in 2007. He was employed by Grant County for about 30 years, then retiring; he was a volunteer fireman for Grant County Fire Department in Ulysses. Dickey and Sonja had a taxi business in Ulysses for numerous years.
He is survived by two daughters, Tonya Johnson of Seminole, Oklahoma and Rachelle Johann of Wellington, Florida; sons, Mathias Johann of Ulysses, Kansas, Deacon Johann of Garden City, Kansas; sister, Jane Swearingen of Hillsdale, Kansas; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Sonja Johann; brothers, Arthur, Colonel, and Warren.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses with Reverend Sam Bynum officiating. Arrangements are in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
