DeWayne Gibson, 81, of Hooker, Oklahoma passed away January 6, 2012, at his home.
DeWayne was born April 10, 1930, at the Gibson home place near Mouser, Oklahoma. He was the son of Clarence Franklin (Jake) and Margaret Frances Walters Gibson .In 1933 they moved from the farm to Guymon, Oklahoma.
After attending Guymon schools and graduating with the Class of 1948, he came to Hooker to manage the Hooker Locker Plant. He purchased the Locker Plant in 1954 and operated it until 1962, when he sold the business. He then became engaged in farming and ranching west of Hooker until his retirement in 1996.
As a young man, he loved swimming and had dreams of being in the Olympics. When he could find the time, he enjoyed the outdoors by going fishing or hunting.
DeWayne was a soft spoken man with a strong work ethic. He was known for his honesty and integrity, and was a man of his word. He was known for his kindness and generosity to others, and always had a smile on his face for those he met.
On December 24, 1948, DeWayne married Betty Herrmann, the love of his life. They had just celebrated their 63rd Anniversary with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in attendance.
Those preceding him in death where his parents, one sister, Merlene Long, and one brother, Darrell Gibson.
Survivors include his wife Betty of the home; one son, Gary Gibson and his wife Mary Ann of Hooker, Oklahoma; two daughters, Carol Fankhouser and her husband Bill of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Karen Krug and her husband Gregg of Skiatook, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Gibson, Kerri Gibson and Eric Gibson, Tami Long, Tyler Fankhouser, Austin Krug and Chandler Krug: Seven Great grandchildren, Parker, Mark, Addison, Ashlyn, Emily, Lyndee and Kason
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Hooker, Oklahoma with Rev. Les Bussell officiating. Interment will be in the Hooker cemetery directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc.
