Denise L. Beard, age 74, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Friday, June 7, 2024, at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal, Kansas. She was born September 17, 1949, in Stafford, Kansas, the daughter of Clyde E. and Mollie Martina (Schilling) Beard.
Denise grew up in Ulysses and graduated from Ulysses High School. She then furthered her education at Kansas State University and obtained a master’s degree in education. She was a member of the teacher sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma, for many years. After graduation, she taught in Alternative Schools dedicating her career to helping students obtain an education despite their struggles and choices for several years in Kansas City, Missouri. Her mission was to teach students to see the beauty in learning and to face challenges with courage. After retirement she continued to serve members of her community with an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. Denise loved her time in Kansas City, but eventually returned to Ulysses to help and care for her mother and brother. She loved her cat, Lucy, which she had for 22 years.
She is survived by her niece, Annette Brown; great-niece, Matthew Brown(husband) and Victoria Brown of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her cat, Lucy; and many friends.
Denise is preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Gardell.
Denise will be laid to rest with her parents and brother at the Stafford Cemetery in Stafford, Kansas.
