Deloris “Dee” Eileen Drake

Deloris “Dee” Eileen Drake, age 78, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas. She was born September 4, 1943, in Wellington, Kansas, the daughter of Ralph and Edith Evelyn (Miller) Rains.

Dee, a homemaker, has lived in Ulysses since 1973. She married Rodney Drake on February 24, 1973, in Ulysses. Dee was very passionate about art. She was a self-taught artist, and painted in several mediums. She was honored to have taken classes for five years under the direction of Jack Sorenson. Dee was well known for oil painting on turkey tail feathers.

Dee is survived by her husband Rodney of their home; step-daughters, Lori Martin and husband John of Durango, Colorado, and Becky Kringel and husband Michael of Cypress, Texas; five grandchildren; Benjamin Peska, John Kurtis Martin, Megan Tate, Bryant Martin, and Kaelyn Kringel; and eight great-grandchildren, Liam Martin, Kinley Peska, Carter Drake Peska, Jackson Peska, Karson Tate, Bryce Tate, Connor Tate, and Laurel Tate. 

Dee is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Marvin Rains, and sister, Barbara.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to the Main ARTery for children’s art classes and art supplies, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS 67880. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com.
