Debra Diane (Wardlaw) Law

Debra Diane (Wardlaw) Law, 56, passed away Saturday morning, November 26, 2011 at the Morton County Care Center in Elkhart , Kansas . Until her recent illness, she resided with her daughter at the Yarbrough School District near Eva , Oklahoma and was a longtime resident of Hooker, Oklahoma .

Debra was born in Hobbs , New Mexico on September 11, 1955 . After graduating from Nimitz High School in Irving , Texas in 1974 she was employed as a secretary and library assistant before joining the US Army in 1981. Later Debra attended Eastern New Mexico University in Roswell where she received an Associate Science of Nursing in 1991. Family was most important to Debra and she is best remembered for her love of her grandchildren, and her many nieces and nephews.

Debra is survived by her daughter, Melissa Law of Eva; son, Geoffrey Law of Hooker; brother, Robert Wardlaw and wife Glenna of Hooker; brothers, Dewayne Wardlaw of Hooker, James Szelipajlo of Roswell, Scott Szelipajlo of Dallas; her two grandsons, Levi Cole and Correy Law; and many other friends and family members.

She is preceded in death by her father, Virgil Wardlaw; her parents, Betty and Edward Szelipajlo; and sister, Linda Amick.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the First Christian Church in Elkhart , Kansas with Pastor Jim Cunningham presiding. Interment will follow at the Hooker Cemetery in Hooker, Oklahoma . Memorials may be to the Debra Law Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854 , Elkhart , KS 67950 .
