David Alvarez Cardenas, age 80, died on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas.

He was born on June 16, 1944, in Jalisco, Mexico, to Trinidad Alvarez and Maria de la Luz Cardenas.

David was united in marriage to Petra Alvarez in October 1974. He was a caring father, grandfather and great grandfather. David was very hard-working. He owned and operated the family business, Casa Alvarez, for many years in Liberal, Kansas. He was much loved by his family and friends and will be forever remembered.

He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Petra Alvarez of Liberal, Kansas,
Two sons, David Alvarez of Liberal, Kansas,
Trinidad Alvarez of Liberal, Kansas,
Daughter, Claudia Alvarez of Liberal, Kansas,
Three brothers, Ernesto, Raul and Jose Alvarez,
Five sisters, Ofelia, Socorro, Martha, Maricela and Gillermina Alvarez,
Four grandchildren, Daniel, Andre, and Alexander Aguirre of Liberal, Kansas, and
Jayra Alvarez of Wichita, Kansas, and
Two great grandchildren, Adaliyah and Zenaida Aguirre.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Trinidad Alvarez and Maria de la Luz Cardenas, and
Sister, Elva Alvarez, and
Brother, Javier Alvarez.

Visitation will be on 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday, January 27, 2025, at the Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas.

Rosary will follow at 7:00 PM, Monday, January 27, 2025, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1510 N. Calhoun, Liberal, Kansas.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1510 N. Calhoun, Liberal, Kansas, with Reverend Charles Seiwert celebrating.

An interment will take place in Mexico at a later date.
