Darell Dean Tharp, 76, lifelong OK Panhandle resident, passed away Sunday morning, November 1, 2020 in Turpin, Oklahoma.

The son of James Henry and Gladys Joy (Smart) Tharp, he was born August 31, 1944 in Guymon.

Darell attended Hardesty schools, graduating with the Class of 1962.  He then attended OPSU for two years.  Following his education, he served in the U.S. Army.  He was a member of the Victory Center Church, had served on the Hardesty School Board, and was a member of the Guymon Masonic Lodge.  Darell was engaged in farming, ranching and was a club owner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Gladys Tharp and three brothers, Gerald, Melvin and Don Tharp.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenna Payne and husband, Kevin, and Brandi Sutter and husband, Austin all of Amarillo, Texas; an adopted son, Malachi Garcia of Ulysses, Kansas; two brothers, James E. Tharp and wife, Kay of Yukon, Oklahoma and Marvin Tharp and wife, Diana of Hardesty; two sisters, Joy Briggs and husband, Ronald of Ulysses, Kansas, and Dixie Tharp of Ulysses, Kansas.  Survivors also include five grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, JoAnn Tharp of Hardesty and Barbara Tharp of Santa Paula, California, numerous nieces and nephews and close friends, Javier and Mary Moreno of Turpin.

Graveside funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning, November 4th at the Hartville Cemetery in Hardesty with Rev. Odie Nunley officiating.  Services were under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
