Darrell D. Langhofer

Darrell D. Langhofer, 88, died September 7th, 2018, at Newton Medical Center, Newton, Kansas.
He was born on July 21, 1930, in Dodge City, Kansas, the son of William (Bill) and Noval Langhofer. He attended the Plains school system and graduated in 1948. After graduation, he farmed and ranched until joining the Army. He served from 1954-56 spending a year in Germany.
On June 11, 1961, he married Mary Ellen Douglass at Burlington, Kansas. After their marriage, the couple moved onto a farm northwest of Plains and made it their home. Darrell was a farmer until he retired in 2001.
He belonged to the United Methodist in Plains serving as a trustee and various committees, a past member of the Elks lodge, past Worthy Patron of O.E.S., a member of the Masonic Fraternity Lodge serving as past Master and received his 65 year pin this year.
Darrell is survived by his daughter Debra Bartel and husband Shaun of Newton, KS, and son Douglass Langhofer and wife Melissa of Plains, KS; four grandchildren, Sarah, Megan, Kaylen, and Cole; nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Ellen, parents, and brother, Billy Gene Langhofer.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 14th at Plains United Methodist Church with the Reverend Terry Mayhew presiding. Friends may call from 11 am until 7 pm with family present from 5-7 pm Thursday at the Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Interment will be in the Plains Cemetery.
The family would welcome memorials to the SWH scholarship fund in care of the funeral home.
