Darrel L. Taylor, age 84, passed away late Monday evening, January 1, 2018, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas.
 
He was born January 14, 1933, at Uniontown, Kansas, the son of Frank Henry and Fannie (Comstock) Taylor.  As a young boy he attended school in Uniontown, graduating from Uniontown High School, graduating May 14, 1946.  After his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy serving during the Korean War.   Upon his discharge, he worked in various capacities including a cable layer for AT & T.  He was a resident of Meade for the past couple of years moving from Garden City, Kansas.
 
He was a member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Eagles Lodge, all of Garden City.  He enjoyed collecting coins, fishing, hunting, antiques, watching FOX News, engaging in politics, watching game shows, and spending time with his family and friends.
 
On November 5, 1955, he married Amy JoAnn Brown.  The couple later divorced in 1977.
 
He is survived by five daughters, Beck Andrews and husband Butch of Greely, Colorado, Tammy Heimeyer and husband Rick of Kilgore, Texas, Pam Taylor of Liberal, Kansas, Diane Baldridge and husband Doug of Tyrone, Oklahoma, and Peggy Neel and husband Billy of Meade, Kansas; a sister Carol Wilson of Manzanola, Colorado; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Frank Taylor, Jr., Don Taylor, and Dale Taylor; and a sister, Thelma McWilson.
 
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018, at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 8, 2018, at the Fort Scott National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kansas.
 
The family would welcome memorials to the Lone Tree Retirement Center, the Senior Center of Garden City, or the veteran’s charity of the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.
