Daphne Rushing

Daphne Rushing, 96, of Liberal, passed away on Thursday March 21, 2019 at Brookdale – Liberal Springs in Liberal, KS.

She was born on May 10, 1922 to John and Esther (Cheney) Brindle at Courtland, KS.

On October 25, 1946 she married Charles W. Rushing at Wichita, KS; he preceded her in death on October 8, 1995.

Daphne was a graduate and Valedictorian of Courtland High School. During WWII she worked as a Secretary to Mr. Beech at Beech Aircraft in Wichita, KS, where she also visited with Minnie Pearl on many occasions as she was visiting Mr. & Mrs. Beech. She met her husband while shopping at Rushing Market. After Daphne and Charles were married they adopted Sydney and moved to Liberal in 1958. In 1965 her husband Charles joined Bill Colvin in Pizza Hut, which led them to move to Great Falls, Montana. They later retired to Harrison, Arkansas where she took up Bowling. In 2002 Daphne moved to Liberal, KS to be closer to her daughter Sydney. She was an Avid Bowler as a member of the Women’s Bowling League, loved gardening, working in her yard, had an immaculate home, was an avid sports fan and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Daphne is survived by her Daughter- Sydney Lyn Bond and husband Benny of Plains, KS; Granddaughter- Sara Jo Munn and husband Derek of Kismet, KS; Grandson- Jonathan Shane Rushing of Pauls Valley, OK; Sister- Nina McClure of Oklahoma City, OK; Brother- Jack Brindle of Lake Charles, LA; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and two nieces.

There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place.

Memorial Services will be 10:30 am Saturday, April 6, 2019, at the Miller Mortuary Chapel.

Inurnment will take place at a later date in Maplewood Cemetery at Harrison, Arkansas.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Association in care of Miller Mortuary PO Box 826 Liberal, KS 67905-0826.
