Danny M. Ackerman, age 89, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 10, 2024, at his Meade, Kansas , residence.
He was born December 7, 1934 at Alva, Oklahoma, the son of Ezra and Hazel (McArthur) Ackerman. As a young boy, he attended school in Kiowa, Kansas, and later Burlington, Oklahoma, graduating from Burlington High School in 1951. After his graduation, he began working for the Burlington CO-OP lumber yard. He was promoted to bookkeeper in the main office and later became the general manager. In 1972, he moved to Meade and began working as the general manager at the Meade CO-OP, retiring after twenty-six years of service.
On July 31, 1955, he married Charlene Ruth Armbruster at Cherokee, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on March 18, 2020.
He was a founding member of the Southwest Kansas Managers Group, served on the Lone Tree Lodge board of directors, and was active in the Meade County Fair. He enjoyed many hunting seasons with friends and family at the Meyers ranch and took lots of fishing trips to Texoma lake. He also enjoyed playing golf. Dan and Charlene loved to travel to Colorado with their camper. They also would attend many sporting events that their grandchildren participated in. They were especially happy to work in their yard which had a large pond where all the grandchildren were always excited to feed the fish. He was especially proud of his giant bonsai bush. There were no fallen leaves, twigs or squirrels allowed on Dan’s perfect lawn.
He is survived by his children, Brad Ackerman and wife Crys of Meade, Randy Ackerman and wife Pam of Wichita, Kansas, and Danette Langford and husband Rjay of Meade; two sisters, Gay Sweet of Wichita, and Betty Cutright of Cherokee, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Charlene; parents; sister, Carolyn Huber; and great-grandson, Dalton Baker.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church, Meade. Interment will follow in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade. No public viewing is planned.
