Corrine Mae Nelson, age 61, of Travelers Rest, South Carolina, died Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at her son’s home in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born July 17, 1956, in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of John Christian (J.C.) and Shirley Ann (Cronn) Nelson.

Corrine, a longtime resident of Travelers Rest, South Carolina, grew up in Johnson and graduated nursing school at Seward County Community College in Liberal. Corrine’s love of taking care of people was evident in her 30 years as a Registered Nurse. The last 25 years she was a traveling nurse. She also loved to sew, crochet, needlepoint, make crafts, and word search puzzles. Corrine enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and teaching them to bake and crochet.

Corrine is survived by sons, George Peters and wife Daniela of Travelers Rest, South Carolina, Andrew Peters and wife Katrina of Ulysses, Dexter Peters and wife Jennifer of Ulysses; daughter, Belinda Gluntz and husband Jon of Ulysses; one brother, Clem Nelson and wife Sharry of Johnson; one sister, Colleen Hutchens of Woodward, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Kathy Nelson of Payson, Arizona; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. 

Corrine is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Curtis Nelson; brother-in-law, Butch Hutchens; and nephew, Erik Hutchens.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Johnson, Kansas. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson. Friends may call from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, December 8, 2017, at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to Circle of Hope or Pheasant Heaven Charities both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 715, Johnson, Kansas 67855.
