Cody Allen Gregory

Cody Allen Gregory was born in Beaver, OK on Sept. 20, 1985 to Michael and Lisa (Atwood) Gregory. He was welcomed by a waiting room full of family and friends and was loved immediately by so many. Cody had a brilliant mind and loved to learn. He absorbed everything and was always kind and loving to others.
He attended Garrett and Beaver Elementary before the family moved to Syracuse, KS. The Gregory’s returned to Beaver in 2002 where Cody completed his senior year of high school, graduating in 2003. He was a National Merit Scholar and earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Tulsa in 2008.
Cody encountered plenty of “bumps in the road” and it took a great deal of time to find his place. Depression and addiction plagued Cody for several years, but he was always a fighter. Cody earned so much respect from others as he worked to rebuild his life. The family and community that welcomed him into the world continued to encourage and love him throughout the tough times.
As a young child, Cody’s favorite holiday was Easter as he thoroughly enjoyed coloring eggs. Cody took tremendous pride in having the “ugliest” Easter egg. That was a tradition that began early in his childhood and continued through his final Easter this past spring.
Cody became a member of the Beaver Fire Department in 2017 and was – again – welcomed by a large and loving family. After completing the rigorous fire training, Cody was chosen as assistant chief by members of the department. He also became an EMT and found a place where his kindness and love for others was a perfect fit for him. He served as the Chief Financial Officer at the Beaver County Memorial Hospital and in October of 2020 he became the administrator of the Beaver County Nursing Home as well. While he was in training to become a paramedic, he was also in school to complete his long-term care certification. Cody loved the work and enjoyed giving back to the community that supported him no matter what life had thrown at him during his struggles, and he always put others first.
There was not a kinder, gentler, more compassionate person than Cody. He was a wonderful uncle to Rylee, Ella and Kynzlee. He adored those girls with all of his big loving heart.
Cody was tired, tired of the struggles. None of us realized how tired until the morning of July 14 when he left this life. Loved ones know he finally has the peace that eluded him for so long. The good Lord welcomed him home with loving arms.
Cody was preceded in death by great grandparents Brownie (Albert) and Eloda Gregory, Beaver County; Walter (Sox) and Rosalee Atwood of Wheeler, TX; grandfather Tony Hugg of Dumas, TX.
Those left to mourn his passing are his mom and bonus dad Lisa and Guy Bennett of Tuttle, OK; his dad Michael Gregory of Gage, OK; his sister Shaye Bias and husband Evan and their daughters Rylee and Ella of Tuttle along with Cody’s bonus niece Kynzlee Dillon of Enid; bonus sister Sara Haden and husband Tyler and their sons Jace and Reece of Woodward; bonus brother Andy Bennett and his wife Shelby and son Lane of Mooreland, OK; grandfather Dan Atwood of Beaver; grandparents Barbara and Gerald Edwards of Garden City; grandmother JoAnn Hugg of Dumas, TX; special aunt Mary Pugh of Beaver; bonus grandparents Emmett and Jan Bennett of Beaver.Others grieving Cody’s death are his special “tribe” of friends Ashley Johnston, Scotty King and Barby Payne.
He is also survived by the wonderful members of the Beaver Fire and EMS Departments along with fire and EMS first responders in the 5-state region; the staff at the Beaver County hospital and nursing home along with all of the residents Cody checked on and cared for during his time as nursing home administrator. There are also many aunts, uncles and special family friends who will mourn his death.
Cody was returned to Beaver from Oklahoma City Friday evening during an incredible procession of emergency responders and citizens. Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement and other responders throughout each community were out in full force with a heart-warming welcome. When the escort arrived in Beaver, Cody was given a hero’s reception with the streets lined with flags, music and sparklers. It was touching for the family to see.
