Clinton Eugene Haskell

Clinton Eugene Haskell was born July 8, 1927 to Claud and Minnie Haskell on a farm on Clear Creek in Beaver County, Oklahoma. His parents homesteaded on a farm eleven miles southwest of Beaver where he grew up. Clinton was the fifth child of six children, three sisters and two brothers. He attended first grade at the Elmwood School for one year. He and his brother rode horseback eight miles round trip every day to attend school. The following two years he attended school at Homecreek. As this was during the Dust Bowl days, Clinton always told the story of holding onto the horse’s tails as they led him and his sister for their journey home. He attended Beaver Schools for the remainder of his education and graduated high school in 1946. During high school, he was active in football, basketball and baseball, with football being his favorite. He helped with chores and drove a tractor during the summer months.

Clinton met Pearl (Rather) Haskell in the Beaver High School gymnasium in 1946. They were married April 27, 1948 in Buffalo, Oklahoma. For seventy-four wonderful years, they called Beaver, Oklahoma their home. To them, three children, Cheryl, Alan and Debra were born. Clinton worked part-time for the ASC office and tended to the farm. In 1955, he went to work for Northern Natural Gas where he worked for thirty years, retiring as a shift foreman in 1985. Clinton never lost his love for the farm. He worked hard over the years with his farming and ranching business which he operated well into his 80’s. Clinton was a lifelong resident and a true historian of Beaver County.

Clinton and Pearl enjoyed all sporting events, especially watching their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren participate. Some of his fondest memories include state tournament trips, OU football games, attending cattle sales at the Beaver sale barn and their trip to Hawaii to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. Clinton attended the Beaver Church of Christ and was active in the community for many years. He was an avid Beaver Duster his entire life and was instrumental in the creation of the Quarterback Club. For years he ran the down marker at football games, the clock at basketball games and was a faithful spectator for many, many years. He was also known to not let anyone leave his house hungry, being a connoisseur of ice cream, and no matter where he went he never met a stranger.

Clinton passed away on December 12, 2022 at the Beaver County Memorial Hospital in Beaver, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Edna, Opal and Carol Joy, who he nicknamed “Chick”, his brothers Virgil, who was killed in World War II, Vestal (Veck) and great granddaughter Haven Sue Stambaugh. He is survived by his wife, Pearl of the home, his children Cheryl McNabb and husband Leland of Enid, OK, Alan Haskell and wife Sandra of Tuttle, OK and Debbie Haskell of Beaver, OK. Six grandchildren, Lori King and husband Randy of Enid, OK, Alissa Schlessman and husband Craig of Beaver, OK, Amanda Stambaugh and husband Eric of Hutchinson, KS, Summer Smylie of Amarillo, TX, Trace Haskell and wife Kendra of Liberal, KS and Blane Smylie of Beaver, OK. Seven great grandchildren, Lawson King, Kinsey Hines and great-great granddaughter Libby, Ashton King, Rylie and Malloree Schlessman, Ethan Stambaugh, Joseph and Kaytee Haskell as well as a host of other family and friends.

11:00am – 7:00pm. Funeral Services will be at the Beaver Church of Christ on
Saturday December 17th, 2022 at 2:00pm
