Clayton D. “C.D.” Young

Clayton D. “C.D.” Young, age 95, of Ulysses, Kansas died Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at The Legacy at Park View in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born July 6, 1919 in Chanute, Kansas, the son of Frank and Ethel (Thorton) Young.

C.D. grew up west of Petrolia and graduated from Humbolt High School. He married Marriannah Harris on July 14, 1943 in Miami, Florida. C.D. served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He retired at the age of 62 from Cities Service Gas Company. He then drove tractor and helped with his son’s farming operation. C.D. was a member of the First Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling on his motorcycle and spending time with friends at the Grant County Senior Center.

He is survived by his sons, Ronnie Young and wife Nancy of Ulysses, Kansas, Darrell Young of Columbia, Missouri, and Donnie Young and wife Karen of Ulysses, Kansas; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 

C.D. is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marriannah; and brothers, Lowell and Kenneth.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Pastor Steve Swann Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, Kansas with military rites conducted by Military Funeral Honors Team for Kansas. Friends may call from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, November 28, 2014 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church or Grant County Senior Center in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
