Clay Quinton Phillips, age 82, died on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Star Living in Lawrence, Kansas.
He was born on July 28, 1941, the son of Glen Carl Philips and Irma Jane (Dye) Phillips in Norman, Oklahoma. Clay participated in gymnastics in school and graduated from East High School in Wichita, Kansas in 1959. After graduating, he joined the Navy from 1959 through 1963. On November 24, 1963, Clay married Rosalee Powers in Lakewood, Colorado. Rosalee preceded him in death on February 24, 2019. He was a wonderful father to his two children, Christopher and Laura. Clay worked as a Gas Well Tester for Panhandle Eastern and enjoyed electronic repair during his spare time and was a master of scratchies for every pet he had. He had a seriousness about him that when he told a joke, it took you a minute to realize it was a joke and that made it all the more funny. His long life was a blessing to all that knew him, and he will be fondly remembered.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Phillips and his wife, Sheri of Lawrence, Kansas, and daughter, Laura Oyler and her husband, Clinton of Liberal, Kansas, grandchildren, Brendan Phillips of Lawrence, Kansas, Shayna Phillips of Overland Park, Kansas, Kelsi Oyler of Houston, Texas, and Jason Oyler of Manhattan, Kansas, brothers, Galen Phillips, and Carl Phillips, and sisters, Anna Karhoff, and Inace Wilson.
