Clarence Rudell: UPDATE

Clarence P. Rudell, age 86, of Oakley, Kansas died Monday, March 18, 2013 at his home in Oakley, Kansas. He was born September 13, 1926 in Wallace, Kansas, the son of Matthew and Mary (Pheifer) Rudell.

Clarence grew up in the Wallace and Russell Springs area and Levant, Kansas. After serving in the United States Navy during World War II, Clarence moved to Oakley. He was a co-owner of R-U Ready Mix and Oakley Excavating until his retirement in 1990. Clarence married Edna Elizabeth Uhrich on August 17, 1947. She preceded him in death on May 8, 1998. On June 18, 1999, he married Ellen Lou Jennings. Clarence enjoyed collecting coins and old cars, trap shooting, playing cards and going on gambling trips. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley VFW, served on the Oakley City Council, and on the board for Kansas Ready Mix Association.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Lou, of the home; step-sons, Dallas Harman of Salina, Kansas, Dustin Harman of Hays, Kansas; two brothers, Joseph Rudell of Colby, Kansas, Francis “Sonny” Rudell of Campus, Kansas; sister, Henrietta Homm of Garden City, Kansas; seven step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edna; sisters, Jilianna Bruggeman, Waunita Quenzer, Ermalina Vernon; and brother, John Rudell.

Graveside memorial service and inurnment will be held at a later date at the Oakley Cemetery in Oakley, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given to the Hospice Services, Inc. in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
