Christine Schaef Sleeper

God welcomed another angel into heaven with the passing of Christine Schaef Sleeper. Chris died on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, in her home surrounded by her family. Christine was born in Higgins, Texas, on January 14, 1936.

She grew up in Hemphill County, Texas, and graduated from Canadian High School in 1953. She followed her two brothers, Tom and Don, to Panhandle State University. Christine met her life partner, L.C. “Pee Wee” Sleeper, Jr. through her brothers, Tom and Don Schaef. They married on January 22, 1956, and spent most of their married life in Elkhart. Although she enjoyed several jobs outside the home, she found rearing her four children her most important task. Christine worked at the Morton County Hospital, Bultman’s, a local bank, a feed lot, and worked beside her husband on their farm.

She is survived by her husband, of nearly 64 years, L.C., four children: Debbie and Alvin Riley of Hugoton; Donna and Bob Maples of Wynnewood, Oklahoma; Bobbie and Mike Horton of Elkhart; Tommy and Lana Sleeper of Duncan, Oklahoma, six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The Sleepers are extremely grateful to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Morton County Hospital for the loving care they extended to Christine each time she was admitted there.

Graveside service will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at the Elkhart Cemetery with Reverend Wescoatt officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, December 18, 2020, at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart.
