CHARLIE EVERETT FERGUSON OBITUARY

Our loving and faithful Daddy, Granddad, Great Granddad and Great Great Granddad, Charlie Everett Ferguson, went to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, October 4, 2013, at the age of 94. Charlie, the oldest of nine children, was born to George Washington and Lenora Fern Ferguson on June 16, 1919, at his maternal grandparents’ home stead in Texas County, Oklahoma, southeast of Elkhart, Kansas.

Charlie’s father, his Ferguson grandparents, and his Fowler grandparents all homesteaded on property in Texas and Cimarron County, Oklahoma, in the early 1900’s. Charlie graduated from Elkhart High School in 1939. He married his high school sweetheart, Edith Mae Davolt, on May 21, 1939. Edith and Charlie farmed in Cimarron County and were married 73 years. They raised seven children and one nephew: Donnie and wife Karen Ferguson, Connie and husband Pat Bryan, Elva and husband Bob Ponder, Elaine and husband Stan Louthan, Charles and wife Callie Ferguson, Timothy and wife Terry Ferguson, Monty Ferguson, Blaine and wife Sue Ferguson. Charlie’s leaves grandchildren, Donna Boaldin, Pamela Adair, Jeffrey Ferguson, Amy Onofre, Stephanie Hoskins, Scott and Steven Bryan, Shawna Loyd, Robert, Brian and Jonathan Ponder and Melissa Lane, Kim Umland and Shane Louthan, Cynthia Gentry, Kevin and Keenan Ferguson, Dusty Ferguson and Tara Phillips, Joshua and Jessica Ferguson, and grandnephews, Kent and Eric Ferguson. Also surviving are 50 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

Charlie is also survived by his brother, George Ferguson, sisters, Alice Cooper, Ruth Harrington, Pearl Turner and Linda Taylor, and his sisters-in-law, Joy Bryan and Mary Ferguson.

Preceding Charlie in death were his wife Edith, son Timothy, his parents, George and Lenora, his grandparents, William E. and Elizabeth Ferguson and Charley and Tamer (Ella) Fowler, brothers, Glen and Leroy Ferguson, sister, Mary Hill, a grandniece, Ciana Ferguson, and grandsons, Austin and Dalton Ponder.

Charlie came to know Christ as his Savior in a revival meeting in Sturgis (Cimarron County) Oklahoma, as a young boy and was baptized in the First Baptist Church in Elkhart, Kansas. At the time of his death, he was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Rolla, Kansas, where he and Edith taught in the Awana’s program for more than 15 years. He also taught Sunday School classes for many years and loved to honor his Savior with his beautiful God-given voice. He assisted in numerous revival services and substituted for pastors in the surrounding area. Charlie was a founding board member of Yarbrough Schools.

Charlie enjoyed fellowshipping with his family and friends—in church, camping in Colorado and at family get-togethers. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Charlie’s Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial gifts in his honor may be given to Emmanuel Baptist Church, Rolla, Kansas or the charity of your choice, in care of the Garnand Funeral Home, P.O. Box 854, Elkhart, Kansas 67950.
