Charles William Foote passed away on November 22, 2021, in Grand Junction, Colorado.
He was born on October 31, 1931, to Luther and Lila Mae Foote in Jetmore, Kansas. While attending Kansas State University, Charles met the love of his life, Joanne Combs. They were married November 23, 1951.
He is survived by his four children, Barbara Homrighausen (Barry), Steve Foote (Judy), Bob Foote (Lisa) and Roger Foote (Tana), eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a huge church family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne and sister, Charlene.
Charlie had a career at Martin Marietta as a Materials Receiving Inspector for more than 30 years. In his spare time, he had a passion for fishing and the outdoors, as well as wood carving. He founded the Grand Valley Wood Carvers in 1986 where he taught many classes. He carved beautiful realistic birds and mammals, numbering into the thousands.
Charlie and Joanne enjoyed many happy years of travel, fishing, and camping. After Joanne passed in 2012, Charlie lived independently and always kept himself busy; he loved caring for his yard and garden, carving, and going fishing several times a week with his trusty Zebco 33 reel. Charlie loved playing practical jokes and telling stories which often ended with “and it wasn’t really my fault.” He maintained his active way of life until just before his death.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church for many years and most recently a member and Elder of the Covenant Presbyterian Church.
A graveside service and inurnment for both Charles and Joanne will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Stanton County Cemetery with Pastor Mary Courtney officiating. Arrangements are in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 715, Johnson, KS 67855. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com.
