Charlene R. Ackerman, age 85, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 18, 2020, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kansas.

She was born December 14, 1934, at Burlington, Oklahoma, the daughter of Walter W. and Irene Marie (Schurter) Armbruster. After her graduation from Burlington, she attended Northwest Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma. Most of her college years took place after her children were born

On July 31, 1955, she married Dan Ackerman at Cherokee, Oklahoma. Later in 1972, the couple moved to Meade, Kansas, and she began her teaching career with USD 226, teaching fourth grade for many years.

She was a member of PEO, the Friends of the Meade Library, and a quilting club of Liberal. Spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was the biggest joy in life. In her retirement years she was obsessed with quilting. She also loved flower gardening, photography, and scrap booking.

She is survived by her husband, Dan Ackerman of Meade; two sons, Randy Ackerman and wife Pam, Brad Ackerman and wife Crys, and a daughter, Danette Langford and husband Rjay, all of Meade; two sisters, Carolee A. Whitacre and husband Bob of LaHabra, California, and Cecelia Castle and husband Richard of Jet, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Patricia Armbruster of Burlington, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Charles Armbruster.

Private family funeral services will be held at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow private services in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.

The family would welcome memorials to the Lone Tree Retirement Center or the Meade Public Library in care of the funeral home.
