Celia Janet Coen, age 68, of Elkhart, Kansas died Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart, Kansas. She was born April 1, 1950, in Elkhart, Kansas, the daughter of Floyd and Maxine (Turner) Coen.
After working as a nurse’s aide and medical assistant for many years, Celia became a Registered Nurse in 1981. She worked in small towns her entire career. Her work was very fulfilling because nurses were truly needed. Her favorite area of practice was geriatrics. For a short time Celia was a director of a long term care center. She also was the craft supervisor at the 4-H Center at Rock Springs. From 1990-1992, she was a foster parent for two teenage girls. In 1992, the most important event of her life occurred. Celia adopted her son Shannon. He is the joy of her life. She enjoyed making crafts, needlework and also oil painting landscapes, and listening to Country & Western music.
Survivors include her son, Shannon Coen of Elkhart; sisters, Linda Passmark and husband Claes of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Patti Grieshaber and husband Robert of Elkhart; nephew Nik Passmark; niece, Brynn Grieshaber; and many other family members.
Celia is preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside service will be Friday, June 8, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart, Kansas, with Pastor Terrell Giddens officiating. Friends may call on Thursday, June 7, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart, Kansas.
