Carroll Raymond Cook

Carroll Raymond Cook was born on September 11, 1933 in Perryton, Texas to Clyde Russell and Maysel Pearl Wilson. He passed away on August 24th, 2019 at Cimarron Memorial Hospital. From an early age, he lived with his grandparents, Harvey and Pearl Wilson near Balko, Oklahoma. He attended school in Balko for three years and in 1945 the family moved to a farm east of Keyes, Oklahoma. After moving to Keyes, he began attend school there and earned the nickname “Cookie” from his bus driver Richard Gardner. That nickname stuck with him for the rest of his life.

Cookie’s grandmother died in 1948 followed by his grandfather in 1949. At that time, he went to live with his mother and her second husband, John Harbaugh. He graduated from Keyes High School in 1952. After graduating high school, he joined the Army where he was assigned as a cook and attended cooking school. After leaving the army, he returned to Keyes and went to work for Chris Hunt Water Hauling. After working for Chris Hunt for several years, he purchased the business, and ran It with the help of his children until he retired in 2001.

On April 1, 1961 he was married to Sherley Chapman and they made their home in Keyes. During their 58 years of marriage Cookie and Sherley were blessed with three children, Gary, Donnie, and Lynn. Cookie served in many community functions including the Keyes School Alumni, Keyes School board, and he drove the school athletic bus for several years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Keyes.

Cookie enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and Oklahoma Sooners play football. He liked to cook and was known for making great breakfast for all of the grandkids. Cookie enjoyed spoiling his grandkids especially with the candy bars he kept stashed away throughout the house.

Cookie is survived by his wife Sherley of the home, his three children and their spouses: Gary and Jeanie Cook, Donnie and Julie Cook, and Brent and Lynn Jones; seven grandchildren: Marsha and Joseph Williams, Michelle and Kevin Lopez, Mitchell and Sarah Perky; Bailey and Kc Baldonado, Braden Cook, Shannon Jones, and Taylor and Kevin McIntire; nine great grandchildren, as well as one brother, John Harbaugh, and one sister, Linda Stark, as well a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his Grandparents, parents, and one brother Ben Harbaugh.

Visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Monday, August 26, 2019 at The Henson-Novak Funeral Home in Boise City. Services will take place 10;00 A.M. Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at The First Baptist Church in Keyes with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the Willowbar Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family is suggesting giving contributions to the Cimarron Memorial Hospital for a ventilator or to Keyes EMS
