Carl Marvin Huling, husband, father, and Papa, passed from this life on January 3, 2015, at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal, KS. Carl was born on January 26, 1923, in Gray, OK, and was one month shy of turning 92. His parents were Arthur C. Huling and Laura Duff Huling. He had three brothers and two sisters: Orville, Leonard, Earl, Marie and Opal.

Carl valued hard work and expected his children to obtain a college degree. He loved and enjoyed attending the Bethel Church of God, of which he was a member. Carl was hired as a tractor driver beginning at age 11 to support his family in Bethany, OK. Shortly after, he began herding cattle in ditches in Beaver County for Oscar Staker. At age 13, when he approached Ray Amen for a job, he was referred to a local family, Bert and Marie Glover. Ray remarked, “Bert is okay, but I don’t know if you can get along with Mrs. Glover. But, if you can, you will be alright, because they are good people.” Carl did get along with Mrs. Glover. He lived with the Glovers working for his room and board and going to school. In fact, Carl got along so well with the Glovers that he married their daughter, Norma Jean Glover on September 28, 1947.

Carl graduated from Greenough High School in 1942. He then served in the Occupational Army in Japan. Eventually, he became his own boss and got the chance to pursue his passion for farming on land in Kansas. Carl farmed until retirement, but continued to help because he loved it. He served on the Beaver County FHA board for several years. He worked hard to provide for his family and gave them many things he never had as a child. Carl loved farming, but he treasured taking his kids, and eventually his grandkids, camping and skiing. Carl & Norma Jean spent almost 46 years, camping and fishing in several states including lots of time in Zapata, Texas. During those years, they made many memories with their wonderful fishing buddies.

Carl was preceded in death by his brothers, sisters, his parents, the Glovers, and his honorary brother, Otis Desper.

His is survived by his wife, Norma Jean of 67 years and their three children: Sandra and (Jim) Crawford of Edmond, OK, Max and (Sally) Huling of Turpin, OK, and Susan and (Brad) Peters of Turpin, OK. He is survived by fourteen grandchildren and their spouses: Amber Sponaugle, Cris and Natalie Huling, Randi and Jason Jones, Summer and Alex and Parsons, Makayla Thacker, Brant Day, Reed and Melissa Day, Abby and Matt Peters, John and Ashley Peters, Mark and Jamie Peters, Jared and Sheree Crawford, Joel Crawford, and Jill and Kevin Larson, alongside 18 great-grandchildren. Carl is also survived by dear friends: Perthana Desper and family, the Boese family, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews, and a host of church, camping, and community friends.

Services for Carl Huling will be held at 2:00 p.m . Thursday, January 8, 2015, at the Bethel Church of God in Turpin, Oklahoma, with Rev. Stanley Lehnert officiating. Interment will follow at the Turpin Mennonite Cemetery directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Oklahoma.
