Butch Young, age 71, of Ulysses, Kansas died Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at his home in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born August 2, 1943 in Macksville, Kansas, the son of Ralph McKinley and Snowie Mabel (Wood) Young.
Butch grew up in Ulysses, Kansas and graduated from Grant County Rural High School in 1961. Butch served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged after being stationed in Ethiopia. Butch married Roxana Smith on May 31, 1968 in Liberal, Kansas. He worked as a welder for Jim Harbour and retired from Pioneer Natural Resources as a welder and pumper. Butch enjoyed drag racing with his daughter, working on cars and participating in car shows.
He is survived by his wife, Roxana Young of Ulysses, Kansas; two brothers, Leon Young of Ulysses, Kansas and Norman Young of Lubbock, Texas; one sister, Berniece Correll of Hesston, Kansas; and five grandchildren.
Butch is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kimberly Jean Young Howard; son, Larry Eugene Young; and one sister, Betty (Patton) Brown.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Country View Baptist Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Sam Bynum officiating. Graveside service and burial will be Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 3:00 PM at Ethel Reece Cemetery in Barnsdall, Oklahoma with Pastor Nathan Boldt officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Barnsdall American Legion. Friends may call Thursday, January 15, 2015 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses, Kansas.
