Brenda Joyce (Simpson) Eckert, 69, Hugoton, KS died on Friday afternoon at Via Christi Hospital of St. Joseph, Wichita, KS.

 

She was the daughter of Melvin Leroy and Dorothy Marie (Moody) Simpson, she was born on May 7, 1948 in Garden City, KS.  She was a graduate of Satanta High School and attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University at Alva, OK where she met her lifelong love.

 

She and David Carl Eckert were married on August 31, 1968 at United Methodist Church, Satanta, KS.  They have dated for 50 years and been married for 49 years.

 

She was loving wife, mother and grandmother.  Her children and grandchildren were a special priority in her life.  They went to their grandchildren’s school, sports and musical activities.  She was very proud of her children and grandchildren.

 

She was a member of United Methodist Church of Hugoton and she taught Sunday school.  She was member of the Eastern Star Chapter 471 of Ulysses, Board of Directors of Project Hope of Hugoton, Past President of Beta Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma of Hugoton, Moscow, Rolla and Elkhart, Hugoton American Legion Auxiliary, Stevens County Hospital Auxiliary and she was a passed Charter Vice-President of Kansas Foster Parents Association.

 

She taught over 40 years of elementary school and junior high math classes.  She taught at Alva, OK, Garden City, Albert, Valley Center, Maize, Sedgwick, Hugoton and Liberal Kansas.

 

 

Survivors include his her husband, David Eckert, a son, Marcus Carl Eckert and wife, Tammi all of Hugoton, KS.; a daughter, Angela Kaye Staten, Liberal, KS.; two brothers, Dr. Larry Simpson and wife Sara, Landenberg, PA., Dr. Dennis Simpson and wife Julie, Pullman, WA.; six grandchildren, Takoda Marcus Eckert, Raven Hope Staten, Rayne Qvena Staten, Rayshawn Queshae Staten, Tala Isabel Eckert, Tukker Mecay Eckert and other relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Dorothy Simpson, a daughter, Francesca Jean Eckert.

 

A memorial has been established for Project Hope, Hugoton and Kansas Masonic Foundation.  Memorials may be mailed to Paul’s-Robson Funeral Home-PO Box 236-Hugoton, KS 67951.

 

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 2PM at United Methodist Church, Hugoton, with Pastor Becky Davison presiding with O.E.S. rites by Ulysses Chapter #471.

 

Friends may call Monday 3PM to 7PM and Tuesday 10AM to 8PM at the funeral home.  Family will be present at viewing form 4 PM to 7:30PM at the funeral home.
