Billie Maureen Schnaufer

Billie Maureen Schnaufer, age 100, of Elkhart, Kansas died Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart, Kansas. She was born March 15, 1915 in Tyrone, Oklahoma the daughter of Charles and Hattie (Thurman) Pittman.
Mrs. Schnaufer, as a child, enjoyed spending summers with her grandparents in Arkansas. She grew up in Hooker, Oklahoma and graduated from Hooker High School. She then attended Panhandle A&M College in Goodwell, Oklahoma where she met her husband. Billie married Connolly Schnaufer in 1937 in Guymon, Oklahoma. After their marriage, they lived in Sturgis, Oklahoma and raised their family there. As a family, they enjoyed camping and going to dances. Billie enjoyed being a homemaker and keeping house for her family. She was an avid reader, currently reading To Kill A Mockingbird. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
Survivors include her son, Jack Schnaufer and wife Becky of Keyes, Oklahoma; daughters, Kati Harbuck and husband Darrell of Bisbee, Arizona, Joan Bolin and husband Stan of Elkhart, Kansas, Mary Schnaufer of husband Steven Elias of Grass Valley, California; sister, Oteka Thomas of Georgetown, Texas; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Billie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Connolly in 1988; sister, Vivian Dysinger; one great-grandson, and one great-granddaughter.
Rosary and vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, January 22, 2016 and funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 23, 2016, all at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Elkhart, Kansas with Reverend James E. Baker officiating. Interment will follow at the Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart. Friends may call Friday, January 22, 2016 from 2:00 PM until service time St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Elkhart, Kansas.
