Betty Jo (Unger) Young, a beloved figure known for her unwavering love and kindness peacefully passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at Satanta District Hospital in Satanta, Kansas. She was born on May 23, 1933, in Ford, Kansas, to her loving parents Royal Nile and Grace Gertrude (Tucker) Unger.
She and Gale V. Young were married on July 30, 1950, in Satanta, Kansas. Their dedication and love to one another was like none other, they enjoyed time together farming and raising their family.
Betty dedicated many years of her life as a school bus for the local school but her most cherished role to be that of farm wife and mother to Gale and their children. Working alongside Gale on the farm brought her immense joy and fulfillment.
In 1971, Betty Jo gave her life to Jesus and was Baptist with her family the same year. One of Betty’s defining characteristics was her deep faith. She had a profound love for the Lord and served as a Sunday School teacher, guiding others towards spirituality through her devotion to studying the Bible. In addition to her spiritual pursuits, Betty found joy in simple pleasures like quilting, reading, attending Satanta Indian ballgames, and spending time with the Stitch & Chatter Club. Her family was truly her greatest treasure, and she poured endless love into nurturing these connections.
Betty will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter Gaila Jo Ross and husband Perry of Satanta, KS; sisters Nilene Cunningham of Liberal, KS., Jenny Harrison of Satanta, KS., Donna Connors of Satanta, KS., Georgia Lynn Moree of Satanta; along with 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends.
She is now reunited in eternal peace with her husband Gale V. Young; son Scott Young; daughter Sherri Kohlman; brother Raymond Gerald Unger; sisters Polly Ellen Unger, Mary McMinn, and Norma Gross.
A memorial has been established for Happy Agers Senior Center or Ronald McDonald House of Kansas City, in care of Robson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 747, Satanta, Kansas 67870.
Visitation will take place on August 2, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Robson Funeral Home Satanta.
Funeral services to honor and celebrate Betty’s life will be held at the Satanta First Baptist Church, in Satanta, Kansas on Saturday, August 3, 2024, 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Ryan Young presiding the service. Burial to follow at Young Family Cemetery.
Betty’s legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family and faith will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
