Betty Jo Twist of Meade, Kansas, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2017, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center.

She was born October 26, 1924, to the late Charles E. and Kathryn Laird.  She was the youngest of three children.  The family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where her father owned a red fox farm.  The foxes were raised for their pelts for women’s coats.  Better Jo never liked feeding the foxes, because they nipped at her hand.  She graduated from Palmer High School and attended Colorado College and the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.

Betty Jo married Roy Twist, Jr. on January 28, 1949 in Abilene, Kansas, and was happily married for over sixty-eight years.

She is survived by her husband Roy and three sons, Roy Twist III of Athens, Georgia, Kevin Twist of McAlester, Oklahoma, and Jeff Twist of Boulder, Colorado.  Betty Jo had eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was a pillar of her community, an elder in the Presbyterian Church and a member of the PEO.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 Thursday, March 23, 2017, at the United Methodist Church, Meade.  Cremation has taken place.  Personal condolences may be given to the family at www.fidlerormebachmanmortuary.com
