Betty Jo Heitschmidt

Betty Jo Heitschmidt, 93, of Liberal, passed away on Sunday, September
12, 2021 at Wheatridge Care Park in Liberal, KS.
She was born on April 26, 1928 to Warren and Leola (Frank) Swan on their
farm north
of Liberal, KS.
On November 24, 1946 she married Donald Heitschmidt; he preceded her in
death on January 11, 2010 after 64 years of marriage.
When she was five her family moved to a farm southeast of Liberal in
Beaver
County, OK. She attended Union Grade School which was one mile south of
the family farm. Upon entering 9th Grade she attended Greenough
Consolidated School
where she met Donald.  After she and Don were married they farmed land
Northwest
of Hooker, OK until it was sold. They then moved to Liberal, KS while
Don was assuming
his family’s farm operation. Betty worked part time at Chaffin Hardware
and
baked cakes for different occasions including wedding cakes while
raising her sons Joe, Ricky, and Randy. She enjoyed traveling and was a
voracious reader and word puzzle solver. Betty and Don were members of
the First United
Methodist Church in Liberal where they were very active until her
physical ailments
precluded her involvement.
Betty is survived by her sister Gaye Hershey.
Son, Joe Heidtschmidt and wife Linda of
Oklahoma City, OK along with their sons Montie (Leah) and Brandan.
She is also survived by her Daughter in Law, Lindy Heitschmidt; two
grandsons, Zack (Ashley) and Adam (Karyn); two great grandsons; three
great granddaughters, and three great-great grandchildren along with
several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and two Sons, Rick and
Randy Heitschmidt.
Viewing will be 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday September 17th at Miller
Mortuary, Liberal, Kansas.
Graveside Services will be 10:00 am Saturday September 18th at Restlawn
Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Pastor Stan Lehnert, officiating.
