Betty Jean Mansell, age 75, passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 12,2021, at the Penrose Hospital, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
She was born November 15, 1945, at Liberal, Kansas, the daughter of John and Ann (Shields) Amerin. As a young girl, she attended school in Plains, graduating from Plains High School. After her graduation, she attended Hutchinson Cosmetology School in Hutchinson. A lifetime resident of Plains and a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
In 1998, she married Gerald Arnold Mansell. He survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Rachel Valerdi of Cornith, Texas, Katie Papay of Meade, Kansas, and Amy Piersall of Follett, Texas; a stepson, Gerald S. Mansell of Liberal, Kansas; two brothers, Ralph Amerin of Johnson City, Kansas, and E.G. (Butch) Amerin of rural Plains; two sisters, Marge Kramer of Ulysses, Kansas, and Angela Ebling of Plainview, Texas; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by a son, Kelly Holmes, Jr.; her parents; a brother, John R. Amerin Jr.; and a sister, Anna Marie Banker.
Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2021, with the family present at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Cremation will take place after the visitation and memorial services will be held at a later date.
The family would welcome memorials to the John Zay House in care of the funeral home.
