Betty Jane Buchanan died Friday, January 14, 2022 at her home in Liberal, KS.

She was born January 21, 1937 to Hazel (Garrett) and Jess Buchanan in Liberal.

Betty graduated high school in Liberal and went on to attend Northwest Texas Hospital, Amarillo, TX where she graduated as a diploma RN in 1957. She started her nursing career at Epworth Hospital in Liberal and later retired from Southwest Medical Center. She then went on to work 10 years as an Occupational Health Nurse for National Beef Packing. Betty Jane was a dedicated nurse all her life. She truly loved nurses and nursing. She was also a fierce patient advocate regardless of the consequences to her. For those of us privileged to know and work with her, she raised the nursing standard and was willing to teach and show others how to attain it.

She is survived by a multitude of friends who will miss her and her little dog, Sugar.
