Betty J. Barber, age 92, of Johnson, Kansas, died Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Stanton County Hospital in Johnson. She was born December 12, 1930, in Johnson, Kansas, the daughter of Chuck and Hazel (Amen) Morris.
Betty married Kenneth W. Barber on August 17, 1947, in Ulysses. She enjoyed growing roses, loved to embroidery and collected hummingbirds. She was also an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking and caring for her family that she loved. Betty made several sets of tea towels for the United Methodist Church Bazaar every year. An active member of the First United Methodist Church in Johnson, she also belonged to the United Methodist Women, was a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class and volunteered in different areas throughout the years. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge and Futorum Club. Betty had served as Stanton County Sheriff, worked in the bakery at Johnson Co-op Grocery Store, and cooked at Stanton County High School.
Survivors include her sons, Wayne Barber and wife Christa of Darrouzett, Texas, and Kelly Barber and wife Deniese of Johnson; brother, Mearl Morris of Johnson; sister, Judy Figgins of Ulysses; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Kenneth Barber in 2006; brother, Ark Morris; sister, Joyce Bezona; grandchildren, Todd Barber, Jamie Anderson, and Reed Barber; and nephew, Ed Bezona.
Funeral service will be Monday, April 3, 2023, at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson with Pastor Mary Courtney officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, April 2, 2023, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
