Bernice Viola Coble, age 88, of Liberal, Kansas died Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Wheatridge Park Care Center, Liberal, Kansas. She was born July 17, 1922 in Elyria, Nebraska the daughter of Louie and Angie (Golka) Ruzowski.
Bernice lived in Amarillo, Texas most of her life and worked in a department store. After her grandchildren were born she quit working to care from them. She married William (Bill) Coble in 1951 in Amarillo, Texas. They moved to Liberal, Kansas in 2009 to be closer to family. She was a member of the Catholic Church. Bernice enjoyed animals, especially taking care of strays, fishing, and hunting.
Survivors include her husband, William (Bill) Coble of Liberal, Kansas; one son, James R. Hughes; three sisters, Irene Moravec of Seward, Nebraska, Edna Battiato of Fremont, Nebraska, Louise Philbrick and husband Harold of Grants Pass, Oregon; two brothers, Evertt Ruzowski and wife Shirley of Navarre, Florida, Leonard Ruzowski of Ord, Nebraska; one granddaughter, Sherri Martin and husband Larry of Hugoton, Kansas; four great-grandchildren, Caressa Jays and husband Russell of Hugoton, Kansas, Deidre Dixon and husband Dallas of Amarillo, Texas, Kaylan Martin of Amarillo, Texas, Keithan Martin of Garden City, Kansas; five great great-grandchildren, Rowan Dixon, Riggs Dixon, Lexi Jays, Becca Jays, Ashton Jays.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Ernest Ruzowski, one sister Marie Neufeld, one grandson, James William Hughes.
Funeral mass will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at St. Helen Catholic Church in Hugoton, Kansas with Reverend Pascal Klein officiating. Burial will follow at Hugoton Cemetery, Hugoton, Kansas. Friends may call Monday, April 11, 2011 from 2:00 until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home, Hugoton, Kansas.
