Bernard W. Ferrell

Bernard W. Ferrell, age 74, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Friday, January 28, 2011, at his home in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born March 16, 1936, in Lakin, Kansas, the son of Alba W. and Yvonne (Florentin) Ferrell.

Bernard graduated from Lakin High School and attended Fort Hays State University. He served as a radio repairman on a U-2 aircraft for the United States Air Force from June 1957 until June 1961. Bernard married Janet Dennis on December 27, 1966, in Garden City, Kansas. He worked in bridge construction and telephone maintenance. He retired from Amoco Gas Company after 27 years. Bernard enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge, Boy Scouts on the district level, and Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Janet, of the home; one son, Duane D. Fields of LaCrosse, Kansas; three daughters, Jinjer F. Mitchell of Canyon, Texas, Jannyn F. Clark of Hugoton, Kansas, Diedre F. Chandler of Greensburg, Kansas; one brother, Lawrence Ferrell of Ulysses, Kansas; two sisters, Lucille Dieker of Ulysses, Kansas, Gladys McMichael of Sun City, Arizona; five grandchildren, Ashley Fields, Lindsey Zielke, Chelsea Mitchell, Morgan Clark, Mallory Clark; and numerous nephews and nieces. Bernard is preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Marie Urie and Alice Irsik.

Visitation: 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM, Monday, January 31, 2011 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses, Kansas.
Funeral Service: 10:00 AM, Tuesday, February 01, 2011 at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, Kansas, with Reverend Trong Binh Tran officiating.
Interment: Lakin Cemetery in Lakin, Kansas.

Vigil service will be held Monday, January 31, 2011, at 7:00 PM at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, Kansas.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Bentwood Golf Course or Boy Scouts of America in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
