Benny Dale (Butch) Garten, age 71, died Thursday afternoon, October 18, 2018, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas.
He was born August 9, 1947, at Greensburg, Kansas, the son of Dale Guy and Murlene Daysel (Parker) Garten. As a young boy he attended the Greensburg school system. After his schooling, he began his career as a business owner and operator, having operated several businesses. On October 31, 1978, he moved to Meade and owned and operated Garten’s Trading Post and Bait Shop for several years.
He enjoyed collecting coins, metal detecting, woodworking, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.
On May 26, 1973, he married Vivien Todhunter at Las Vegas, Nevada. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Christian Lynn of Meade and Jennifer Price of Stillwater, Oklahoma; a sister, Patricia (Pat) Pass of Meade; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Buddy Garten.
Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at the Church of the Nazarene, Meade. In accordance to his wishes, cremation has taken place. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
The family would welcome memorials to the Neuropathy Association in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
