Ben J. Standard, age 68, passed away early Wednesday morning, November 1, 2017, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas.
He was born January 15, 1949, at Santa Fe, New Mexico, the son of Ben and Floy (Townsend) Standard. As a young boy he attended grade school in Carlsbad, he later moved to Lawrence, Kansas, and graduated from Lawrence High School. He later attended Friends University and received his Masters Degree from Fort Hays State University. He was a former farm manager for Dekalb Swine Producers in Plains.
He was a member of the St. Cornelius Episcopal Church, Dodge City, and was a boy scout. He enjoyed reading, especially the classics, technology, working in his yard, fishing, baking cakes, pies, and breads, and spending time with his family and friends.
On June 26, 1971, he married Linda Giessmann at Wichita, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include a son Blake Standard and wife Nicole of Vancouver, British Columbia; a brother, Greg Standard of Kismet, Kansas; and three sisters Zoe Olson of Tucson, Arizona, Karen Davis of Topeka, Kansas, and Pam Standard.
He is preceded in death by is parents.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2017, at St. Cornelius Episcopal Church, Dodge City. Cremation will follow the service and private family in urnment will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade, at a later date. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
