Barbara McGlohon

Barbara McGlohon, age 87, of Ulysses, Kansas, passed away Friday night, February 26, 2021, at her home. She was born July 21, 1933, in Southard, Oklahoma, the daughter of Robert and Mary Anna (Stiles) Bowman. 

 

Barbara grew up and attended school in Oklahoma. She graduated from Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1955. Her parents were school teachers and Barbara followed the same path. She began her teaching career in Hansford County, Texas. Barbara moved to Liberal, Kansas, in 1959 where she taught in a larger school system for seven years. Her parents also followed her to Liberal, where they lived for eight years. When Barbara interviewed for a teaching job in Ulysses the school district hired her parents as well. Together, they relocated to Ulysses in 1956. She taught in Ulysses for 23 years, and after 33 total years of teaching, Barbara retired in 1989. Barbara married Roy McGlohon on December 9, 1967, in Ulysses. They loved to bowl, fish in Nebraska, attend horse races on the weekend, and gamble in Nevada. Together, they shared 34 joyful years before Roy’s passing. 

 

Barbara leaves behind one sister, Roberta Dixon of Meridian, Idaho; many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

 

Barbara in preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; and husband, Roy. 

 

Graveside service and interment will be Thursday, March 4, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, Kansas, with Reverend Todd Guinn officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 3, 2021, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. The service will be live streamed on Garnand Funeral Home Facebook page. Memorial contributions may be given to the Wounded Warriors Project in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, Kansas 67880.
