Barbara Jo Mitchell
Joe Denoyer - March 22, 2021 1:46 pm
Barbara Jo Mitchell, age 56, died peacefully in her home on Friday, March 19, 2021 after a seven-year long battle with cancer.
She was born March 25, 1964 to Carl and Janet (Mayfield) Billings at Liberal, KS.
Barbara graduated from Liberal High School in 1982 and went on to build a family to which she dedicated her life. Rather than working right after finishing high school, Barbara spent her time raising her children, being in the PTA, volunteering to be room mother, helping with class parties and field trips, as well as coaching her children in sports.
At age 33, Barbara returned to college with renewed determination, graduating with honors from OPSU in 2003. She then dedicated herself not just to her family, but to her clients to help them all better themselves and find a healthy, happy lifestyle. She worked in mental health, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and finally as a corrections officer.
She spent her spare time with her grandchildren, cheering them on from the stands every chance she got, outdoors gardening, going to the lake, enjoying trips to the mountains, and just floating in her swimming pool.
Barbara is survived by daughters Camilla Sanchez and husband Horacio of Buckeye, AZ, Tiffani Burrows and partner Steve Kisner of Liberal, KS, Courtney Morin and husband Hector of Liberal, KS, and Ashten Beal and husband Scott of Kaysville, UT; Eight grandchildren, Keandre Livingston and wife Amor of Honolulu, HI, Keeton and Alana Sanchez of Buckeye, AZ, Korra Kisner of Liberal, KS, Damien, Dominick, and Davinah Alvarez of Liberal, KS, and Michael Morin of Liberal, KS, Greyson, Brooklyn, and Hazel Beal of UT; her parents Carl and Janet Billings of Liberal, KS; her brother Doug Billings of Lawrence, KS, and sister Brenda Rush of Ponca City, OK; and beloved nieces and nephews.
