Barbara Jean Hanson

Barbara Jean Hanson, 94, formerly of Liberal passed away peacefully on Thursday December 26, 2024 in Andover, Kansas.

She was born to Roy and Coral (Hughes) Lambert of Kismet, Kansas, on November 28, 1930 in Liberal, Kansas.

She married Edwin James Pennington in Sublette, Kansas, on August 8, 1948. They had three children together: Edwin Don, Eugene Allen and Stephanie Lucygne (Brady). She later married Walter Ray Hanson on February 9, 1986 in Hooker, Oklahoma. He passed away September 9, 1990.

Barbara graduated from Kismet Rural High School in 1949. She was a talented organist and played for several area churches as well as weddings and funerals for over 30 years. She volunteered with Southwest Medical Center Auxiliary and Community Concerts of Liberal. Barbara loved to dance, work crossword puzzles, and loved her dogs. She always encouraged her children, grandchildren and friends to be all they could be.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, husband Ray, son Eugene, grandson Boz Brady, and brother Duane Lambert. She is survived by son Don (Carol) of Derby, Kansas, daughter Stephanie (Joe) Brady of Coaldale, Colorado, three grandchildren: Callie, Kelli, and Skylar, and seven great grandchildren: Briana, Kyla, Emery, Miles, Colton, Aria, and Rowan.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Alice Greenlee, Brad and Jeanie Beer, and Javier Romero for their longtime friendship and support.

Memorial Services will be at the First Christian Church in Liberal, Kansas on Saturday January 18, 2025 at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Lori Geis scholarship fund-Seward County Community College, Rape Crisis Center- Liberal, Kansas, or Angels for Animals.
