Barbara Ellen “Barb” Smith, age 75, died October 30, 2016 at her residence in Liberal, KS. She was born May 6, 1941, in Santa Monica, CA the daughter of Vernon Dale Berry and Ellen Fern Claar.

She graduated from Winona High School, Winona, KS in 1959. She graduated from St. Anthony School of Nursing in Hays, KS in 1963, with a Nursing Degree.

She worked as Registered Nurse at the Topeka State Hospital and the Kansas Neurological Institute in Topeka, KS. She worked as a Medical Assistance Instructor at Southwest Vocational Technical School in Liberal, KS from 1975 to 2006, at which time she retired.

On June 16, 1963, she married Tom R. Smith at Colby, KS. They were divorced.
On June 14, 1984, she married Paul Raup at Liberal, KS. They were divorced.

She was a member of the Seward County Health Board, Cimarron River Chapter of the American Red Cross Board, Rape Crisis Board and Advocate (LARC-DV), Southwest Vocational Technical School Medical Assistant Advisory Board, Old Township Revitalization Board, PEO, Local and State Arthritis Foundation Board Member, United Methodist Women’s Executive Board and the Liberal Memorial Library Board.

Survivors include
2 Daughters Brooke L. Hinnergardt and husband Lance Anchorage, AK
Leslie E. Smith Liberal, KS

2 Grandsons Zachery L. and Adam T. Hinnergardt.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 3, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church in Liberal with Chris Perkins, presiding. Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 4, 2016 in the Hawkeye Cemetery in Rexford, KS.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 pm Wednesday and 9:00 a.m. to noon on Thursday with the family present from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Brenneman Funeral Home to greet friends.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Angels for Animals or the Liberal Humane Society in care of the Brenneman Funeral Home & Cremation Services 1212 W. 2nd Liberal, KS 67901.
