Avanell Sherrill Mitchel

Avanell Sherrill Mitchell, 90, died, Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal, KS.

She was born June 25, 1924 on a farm at Boyd, Oklahoma in Beaver County, the daughter of Henry and Oma (Myers) Law. Her first eight years of school were in a one room school house, then 3 years at Bethany High School, graduating from Turpin High School in Turpin, OK in 1941.

She worked for over 50 years at the Southwest Daily Times, starting as a bookkeeper in February of 1943 during World War II and retiring November 1994 as assistant to the publisher.

She had been an active member the First Christian Church since 1949, was member of the Aurora Club and the Southwest Medical Center Auxiliary and had worked 1800 hours at the Snack Bar and Gift Shop.

On December 24, 1941 in Liberal, KS, she married Demi Sherrill and he died February 3, 1986. She then married longtime friend Claude L. Mitchell of Midland, Texas on June 3, 1997 in Liberal, KS. He died November 19, 2001.

She is survived by
1 Sister Barbara Ann Wellman of Liberal, KS
1 Niece Kelley King of Liberal, KS
And many Great Nieces and Great Nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother and sister, and a sister Avis Sherrill, 2 brothers-in-law, two nephews and one niece.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday at the First Christian Church with Pastor Terry Ford presiding. Burial will be held at 4:30 pm Saturday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Balko, Oklahoma.

Visitation time will be 9am to 8pm Friday with the family present to greet friends from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at Brenneman Funeral Home.
