Arlene J. McGillivray, age 82, of Ulysses, Kansas died Friday, April 11, 2014 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born May 3, 1931 in Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of Bill and Mabel (Kinsman) Kiistner.
Arlene was a lifetime resident of Grant County and graduated from Grant County Rural High School. She married Gerald Douglas McGillivray on July 2, 1950 in Ulysses, Kansas. Arlene was a sales clerk for Kep’s Toggery, and a bookkeeper for Webber Supply and the ASCS office. Her pride and joy was her family. She enjoyed attending her children’s activities; including ballgames, swim meets, and scout events. She was an avid fan of KU basketball, and enjoyed traveling to see her family.
She is survived by three sons, William McGillivray and wife Katherine of Lawrence, Kansas, Kelly McGillivray and wife Mary Ann of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Steve McGillivray of Overland Park, Kansas; daughters, Sandy Coffindaffer and husband Hardy of Ulysses, Kansas, Shelly Thrailkill and husband Nola of Bonanza, Arkansas; ten grandchildren, Chad Coffindaffer, Beau Coffindaffer, Clay McGillivray, Scott McGillivray, Misty Thrailkill, Kendra Thrailkill, Brock Thrailkill, Damian Thrailkill,
Brad Rogers and Ann Jacob; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Doug in 1974.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 18, 2014 at the Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses. Friends may call from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
