Archie Paul DeBruce, age 93, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Reflection Living – Minnie House in Wichita, Kansas. He was born March 2, 1924, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Alvin and Lulu (Ashley) DeBruce.

Archie grew up in Wichita and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Wichita State University. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged as a Technical Sergeant First Class. Archie married Aileen Beal December 27, 1948, in Junction City, Kansas. Archie and Aileen moved to Ulysses in February of 1952. He did accounting for a number of years before becoming the General Manager for Sullivan Inc. Archie’s interests included photography and playing tennis. He was a past President of the Kansas Grain and Feed Association, chair and member of various committees of the Association, and recipient of their prestigious Sunflower Award given in recognition of contributions to the industry. He was active in assorted community groups in Grant County including the Historic Adobe Museum, the Grant County Library, a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, and sang in a barber shop quartet for many years. Archie was passionate about Lions Club, was a member for over 60 years and served as President of the Ulysses Chapter.

Archie is survived by his son, Paul Edward DeBruce and wife Linda of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; daughter, Shirley Elizabeth Conaway and husband Robert of Medicine Lodge, Kansas; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Juanita Hummel.

Funeral service will be Thursday, January 18, 2018, at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. Interment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery with military graveside rites by Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post #79. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 17, 2018, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to Kansas Children’s Service League in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
