Antonia Flores Sanchez

Antonia Flores Sanchez, age 74, of Johnson, Kansas, died Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson, Kansas. She was born March 17, 1941 in MacAllen, Texas, the daughter of Ernesto and Beatriz (Flores) Sanchez.
Antonia grew up in Hereford, Texas. Her family was migrant workers, which provided her the opportunity to see many places. When she was 12 years old, she had her first job as a waitress. She moved to Johnson, Kansas in 1963. Antonia loved to cook for family gatherings and friends. She also owned a restaurant in Manter. In the early 1970’s she became a LPN. She worked at the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit and Stanton County Hospital in Johnson, and trained many of the nurse’s aids. Antonia had the opportunity to become a traveling nurse, which she loved. She was a people person, and enjoyed traveling and meeting new people. She also enjoyed being outdoors in her garden and fishing. She never sat idle in the house, always doing crocheting, quilting or embroidery. Antonia also enjoyed dancing and listening to music.
She is survived by sons, Alex Sanchez of Newton, Kansas, Jose Saavedra of St. Johns, Arizona, Enrique De Leon of Amarillo, Texas; daughters, Rosalinda Sanchez of Forgan, Oklahoma, Mercedes Duran of Clovis, New Mexico; brothers, Lupe Sanchez of Manter, Kansas, Joe Sanchez of Halstead, Kansas, Ramon Sanchez of Burton, Kansas; sisters, Juana Seinz of Manter, Kansas, Patsy Ramirez of San Antonio, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Antonia is preceded in death by her parents; son, Joe Manuel Sanchez; sisters, Vicky Griego, Rosie Rodriguez, Domingo Sanchez; nephews, George Salazar, Ernest Rodriguez, Jessie Griego, and Pete Sanchez.
Memorial service will be Monday, April 20, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas. Family will greet friends Monday, April 20, 2015 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at 203 S. Knox St. in Johnson.
