Anna Mae Lewis, age 87, of Johnson, Kansas died Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Stanton County Hospital in Johnson, Kansas. She was born August 12, 1925 in Englewood, Kansas, the daughter of Felix R. and Maude J. (Reynolds) Edmisson.
Anna Mae moved to Johnson at the age of two with her family. She graduated from Johnson High School and attended Southwestern College and Emporia State College. Upon marrying John C. Lewis on March 15, 1946 in Syracuse, Kansas; Anna Mae became a farm wife and John’s partner in their farming operation. They lived south of Syracuse since 1946, until moving to Johnson 10 years ago. Anna Mae was a staunch supporter of the Stanton County Library and Hamilton County Library and served as a board member for 30 years. She was also a member of the Syracuse Book Club, Daisy Chain Club, PEO, Cosmos Club, First United Methodist Church in Johnson, United Methodist Women, and served on the First National Bank in Liberal and Kansas Bank Corporation boards.
Survivors include her husband, John, of the home; son, James R. Lewis and wife Janie of Winfield, Kansas; daughters, Sue Dowd and Peggy Stiles both of Johnson, Kansas; sisters, Mona Winger and husband Melvin of Johnson, Kansas and Felicia Wheeler and husband Cal of Wichita, Kansas; four grandchildren, Kate Morrison and husband John, Molly Siegler and husband Noah, Sarah Stiles, and Emily Olafsen and husband Nate.
Anna Mae is preceded in death by her parents, and sister and brother-in-law, Iris and Galen Lane.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson, Kansas with Reverend Don Hasty and Pastor John Teeter officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas. There will be no calling hours.
